Homemade Honey–Ginger Cough Syrup

Homemade Honey–Ginger Cough Syrup

This simple syrup is known to ease:

  • Dry or itchy cough
  • Sore throat irritation
  • Mild congestion
  • Coughs caused by cold or weather changes

The combination of ginger, lemon, and honey helps naturally calm inflammation, soothe the throat, and loosen mucus.

🧂 Ingredients

  • 1 cup honey (raw if possible)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1–2 tablespoons fresh ginger, grated or thinly sliced
  • Optional: a pinch of cinnamon or turmeric for extra soothing benefits

🍯 How to Make the Syrup

  1. Prepare the ginger
    • Wash and grate or slice the ginger.
  2. Warm the honey
    • In a small saucepan, warm the honey over very low heat.
    • Do not boil — too much heat destroys honey’s healing properties.
  3. Infuse the ginger
    • Add the ginger to the warm honey and stir gently for 5–10 minutes.
  4. Add lemon juice
    • Remove the pan from the heat.
    • Stir in fresh lemon juice while the mixture is warm, not hot.
  5. Strain (optional)
    • You may leave the ginger pieces in, or strain for a smooth syrup.
  6. Store
    • Pour into a clean, dry glass jar.

  • Adults: 1 teaspoon, 2–3 times a day

⚠️ Never give honey to children under 1 year.
